Guide Review - LOKSAK Waterproof Storage Bags - Product Review
I was able to try out a variety of LOKSAK bags recently on a wet fishing trip. These bags are totally waterproof – up to 200 feet deep according to the manufacturer. I did not take them down 200 feet, but I did get them good and wet.
The bags look similar to popular kitchen variety storage bags with a zipper type closure at the top. But, when you handle the bag, the first thing you notice is that it is several mills thicker than those bags. The zip-type top on the LOKSAK is also much sturdier than the store bought variety.
I used several bags on a trip that included some slight drizzle of rain and a very heavy fog. I placed my wallet and camera in the large 12 inch by 12 inch bag and they stayed dry all day long.
I used the 6 inch by nine inch bag to store my boat registration papers. The registration fit the bag perfectly. In the past, I would use one of those vacuum sealers and vacuum pack my registration papers to keep them dry. That worked until the heat seal failed half way through the year or until a slight hole formed in the package. At that point, moisture would invade the package and my registration would get wet. Now I have it in the heavy duty waterproof LOKSAK bag, and it will remain dry.
I’m not sure I would use these bags for sandwiches or food, although the thought of my sandwich bread not getting soggy because of the humidity has me considering it.
Overall, these bags performed perfectly – again I did not try the 200 feet deep test. While they are pricey, they are resealable and reusable. The guarantee of a totally waterproof environment for important things may make them worth the price.
The LOKSAK company makes these bags in a variety of sizes and for a variety of purposes. I used the samples that fit my needs on my boat. There are other uses that may apply in other situations.
